How It Started

A Gap in the Market. A Fire in the Heart.

Growing up with a deep love for home décor, Peter Mauno always believed that a home should tell a story — your story, your roots, your culture. But when he looked around at what was available, he found something missing. Most décor stores were filled with the same generic pieces, and the rich, vibrant world of authentic African craft was nowhere to be found.

That gap became his calling. In 2023, Peter founded Maunos Decor with a clear mission: to create a home for authentic African art — one that celebrates the skill of local artisans, supports their livelihoods, and brings the soul of Africa into modern homes across Kenya and beyond.

What started as a personal passion has grown into a curated collection of handcrafted pieces sourced directly from talented craftspeople — weavers, string artists, basket makers and woodworkers — each one preserving a tradition that deserves to be seen, valued, and celebrated.
